the volkswagen ID. space vizzion has been official revealed at the LA auto show 2019, following its teaser in early november 2019. the concept car births another member to the brand’s family of ID. models, which, importantly, are all fully electric. its aerodynamic styling maximizes its energy range whilst also delivers a generously sized interior cabin – one that befits a premium sedan.
integrated into its floor, the volkswagen ID. space vizzion enhances an 82 kWh battery capacity. this offers a maximum output of 250 kW and zips the car from 0-60 in 5 seconds. its 300 mile range per charge is optimized through an aerodynamically shaped exterior body, which delivers a drag coefficient of 0.24.
to start, the exterior design benefits from not needing a radiator grille to cool down its engine. this exemplifies the freedom VW’s designers had when modelling the body. eye-catching airflow apertures were functional to aerodynamics yet shape styling elements. for example, a horizontal panel between the headlights directs air to the rear over the low-slung bonnet. as well, apertures carve airflows around the outside of the front bumper. in a two-tone color scheme, these details contrast with rest of the exterior’s smoothly sculpted surfaces.
the expansive interior maximizes its longwheel base thanks to the compact dimensions of its electric drive and battery. like its power, sustainable also shapes its interior with a new material upholstering its surfaces. called appleskin, it is an artificial leather containing residue from apple juice production. the cockpit has been fully digitalized with all relevant driving information shown on an AR head-up display. entertainment, comfort, online functions and vehicle settings are displayed on a 15.6-inch touchscreen, which seemingly appears to hover above the car’s dashboard.
